After her visit to the Republic of Moldova on August 22, Angela Merkel will return back to Germany the same day because she has a lot of work to do ahead. The German Chancellor is expected to welcome the French President François Hollande on August 23 around 7 PM in Berlin. She invited him for a work-related visit. They are about to hold talks on the issues the Eurozone deals with, as well as to review the current developments in Syria.<\/p>\n

Despite the continuous bustle over the economic debt crisis, Germany assures that the common currency keeps its strong position.<\/p>\n

„The European Union member states have adopted a range of measures to tackle the European debt crisis and to develop the European economic and monetary union. Thus, the euro remains a strong currency,” the press office of the German Government said.<\/p>\n

On August 24, Ms. Merkel will welcome at her office the newly appointed Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. The German daily publication Der Tagesspiegel reported that Greece might ask for a two-year extension of the austerity measures program.<\/p>\n

The Manager Magazin Online wrote on their main page yesterday that “Samaras needs more money from Berlin.”<\/p>\n

On Monday the Greek Foreign Minister Dimitrious Avramopoulos met with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle in Berlin. The German side emphasized how important the reforms are in order to Greece to succeed overcoming the crisis.<\/p>\n

Mr. Westerwelle said that Greece should remain in the Euro zone.<\/p>\n

“The Federal Government [of Germany] wants to stay together in the euro zone and make sure that Greece remains part of the euro zone,” a press release informed, quoting Guido Westerwelle as saying.
