By the end of 2013 Moldova and the European Union will end the negotiations on the establishment of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), Moldpres news agency reports, quoting Octavian Calmac, deputy Economics Minister.<\/p>\n

“The document is to be subsequently ratified by Moldova and the 27 member states of the European Union in order to enter into force in late 2014, when the current Agreement on Autonomous Trade Preferences expires,” the source informs.<\/p>\n

DCFTA will provide substantially improved access to the European market of 500 million consumers for Moldovan goods and services, as well as improved investment opportunities.<\/p>\n

According to Mr. Calmac, the negotiations reached consensus on all chapters of the agenda. The next round of talks is scheduled for September and will take place in Moldova’s capital of Chisinau. Among the debated topics will be the commercial protection tools which Moldova will be entitled to use to protect domestic farmers from imports.<\/p>\n

The European Union is a significant donor to Moldova. It has allocated more than €500 million to Moldova since 1991. For the period 2010 -2013 the same amount of €500 million is foreseen to support the countries EU integration objectives.
