Moldova has made great progress in terms of economic development and recorded a very good tempo of economic growth over the past two years, due to the implementation of more reforms, Moldpres news agency reports, quoting IMF Head to Moldova, Nikolay Gueorguiev.<\/p>\n

During an official meeting with the Moldovan Head of the Parliament Marian Lupu, the counterparts talked about the current economic situation in Moldova, as well as the prospects for the country’s economic development by the end of 2012.<\/p>\n

"We paid special attention to the budgetary and fiscal policy. The parliament’s request was to return to a normal schedule of considering these documents, so that, by late next July, we may examine and adopt certain rectifications to the budgetary and fiscal policy for 2012 in the parliament, and especially to the fiscal policy for the next year," Marian Lupu said.<\/p>\n

Attending the meeting was also IMF Resident Representative in Moldova Tokhir Mirzoev.<\/p>\n

In an interview published in February 2012, Mr. Gueorguiev said the results achieved so far by Moldova are “very good.”<\/p>\n

“The budget deficit has declined by two-thirds since 2009, largely because of a reduction in government spending by over 6 percentage points of GDP. At the same time, public investment has increased by nearly 20 percent in real terms. Spending on programs for social assistance has also been increased considerably,” the IMF official said.
