Moldova will receive an $18 million loan from the World Bank for Agricultural Competitiveness Project, Infotag news agency reports.<\/p>\n

According to the World Bank Office in Moldova, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) will also provide a US$4.4 million grant for project implementation.<\/p>\n

World Bank Country Manager for Moldova, Abdoulaye Seck, said the project will help enhance key elements of the country’s agriculture sector competitiveness by concentrating on important institutional development aspects and direct support to farmers.<\/p>\n

According to Infotag, three features will be the main focus of the project: innovation, investment and competitiveness. The loan will support the reforms in the export competitiveness realm, agricultural business development by providing professional training and consulting and attracting foreign investors within the EU Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.<\/p>\n

The source informs that the loan is provided per a 25-year term with a 5-year grace period, with 0.75% annual rate for service. The interest rate makes 1.25%.<\/p>\n

Over $880 million have been given to Moldova by the World Bank since it joined the organization in 1992.
