The Moldovan economy survives mostly on remittances. Over $94.3 million were sent to the country from the Moldovans working abroad during March 2012. The amount of money has increased with $5.44 million compared to the same period of the last year. <\/p>\n

In 2011 the Moldovan workers from abroad sent almost $1.451 million. The transfers went up by 16.85% in 2011 compared to the sum sent in 2010.<\/p>\n

Most of the money is sent in Euro, followed by US Dollars.<\/p>\n

Many citizens of Moldova choose to work in Russia, which is the most favorite work destination. Ukraine, Spain, Italy, Portugal are also among the countries where Moldovans live and work.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, more than 332,000 Moldovans reside legally in other countries, while the real number, which includes those working illegally, may exceed a half million.
