The Moldovan airports are not ready to welcome the low-cost airlines on its market yet. Chisinau International Airport is expected to lower its fees per passenger from 35 EURO to 15 EURO as low-cost airline Wizz Air requests. Another major problem is the lack of infrastructure on and around Marculesti Airport which needs important investments in order to be reconstructed, Adevarul Moldova daily informs.<\/p>\n

“The company was supposed to operate flights from Chisinau or Marculesti. But it was important, for example, Chisinau International Airport to decrease the airport fees, and Marculesti Airport needs investments of more than 5 million Euro,” Anatol Salaru, the Moldovan Minister of Transportation told Adevarul newspaper.<\/p>\n

Mr. Salaru said the reconstruction works would take up to one and a half years in order to finish all the necessary adjustments on Marculesti Airport.<\/p>\n

“Another solution would be the airport from Balti, but more investments are needed – around 8 million Euro because the current runaway does not comply with the requirements of the big planes,” the Minister said.<\/p>\n

Low cost airlines were supposed to enter the Moldovan air market as of April 2012, especially after Moldova had to join the European Common Aviation Area. The project was postponed due to some difficulties from the European side.
