Ukraine ceased to provide electricity to Moldova as of April 1 when the contract with the national providers expired and hadn’t been extended on time. Currently Moldova is supplied with electricity from unknown sources which officials refuse to disclose the identity of the suppliers.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian energy company, DTEK, told Moldova.ORG that it was unable to comment about the issue until negotiations are concluded.<\/p>\n

Moldova’s Premier, Vlad Filat assured the country that it will not be affected by the contract expirations and that there will be no lapses in the energy supply. The Government is currently engaged in talks with foreign providers and expected that by the end of the day there should be some results.<\/p>\n

The contract with the Russian electric power supplier RAO UES also expired on April 1. Up until now, no contracts have been renewed. If a new contract is agreed upon, the price on electricity may increase as the main providers have asked for a price increase of 13.2% or up to $69 per megawatt hour of electricity.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
