The European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented a Project on confidence building measures in Moldova, according to Infotag news agency.<\/p>\n

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Moldova, Eugen Carpov, said the European Union and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a cooperation agreement willing to provide 13.1 million Euro to the Republic of Moldova to support confidence building measures between both banks of Nistru River.<\/p>\n

"EU’s contribution in the project will make 12 million and UNDP’s aid – 1.1 million euros – for 2012-2015. The funds will be spent to develop a dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, as well as to develop the business environment, civil society, transport and customs sectors, to promote free movement of citizens of both Dniester riverbanks", said Eugen Carpov.<\/p>\n

The official stated that the UNDP and EU funds are subjected to control of a special body including international representatives to make the process transparent and financial resources of European taxpayers be spent according to its intended goal.<\/p>\n

Dirk Schuebel, the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, said “the Project on confidence building measures in Moldova will promote the Transnistrian conflict settlement. Ambassador Schuebel said he hopes the new Tiraspol leadership will display more openness in search for Transnistrian conflict settlement solutions,” according to the same source.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Kaarina Immonen, the UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova, stated that the UNDP carefully watches and promotes activities designed to improve everyday life of Moldovan citizens.
