The Government of the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations signed a $217 million development and assistance programme for the years 2013-2017.<\/p>\n

“Towards Unity in Action: United Nations – Republic of Moldova Partnership Framework” is the name of the new cooperation partnership between sides. The programme aims to support the priorities of Moldova and development challenges in three main realms: first – democratic governance, justice, equality and human rights; second – human development and social inclusion; and third – environment, climate change and disaster risk management.<\/p>\n

“This second partnership framework, which the United Nations is signing with the Government, builds on the experiences and lessons learned from the first agreement. While the UN delivered slightly over 100 million Dollars under the first agreement, this second agreement foresees a doubling of the support to 20 million Dollars over the next five years,” said Mrs. Kaarina Immonen, the UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat explained that such an agreement will strengthen the cooperation between the United Nations and the Moldovan associates.<\/p>\n

“The Government of Moldova particularly appraises the new “Delivering as One” vision which will help enhance coherence and cooperation between the UN agencies and the national counterparts. The new programme provides a comprehensive overview of the UN support to Moldova towards national priorities and represents a step forward in bringing services closer to people,” said Vlad Filat.<\/p>\n

According to the United Nations’ report, the new Partnership Framework will ensure that reforms in the area of institutional development and justice remain on track while promoting human rights and gender equality, and strengthening civil society organizations.<\/p>\n

22 resident and non-resident UN agencies have signed the new agreement between sides. The United Nations established an office in the Republic of Moldova through its agencies after the country’s adherence to the United Nations in 1992.<\/p>\n
