Prime Minister Vlad Filat, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule and Hungarian Minister of State of the Foreign Ministry Zsolt Nemeth gave a news conference on the results of a meeting of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council in Brussels, the government’s communications and press relations department has said.<\/p>\n

Filat said the participants in the meeting reviewed the achievements made in a year after the previous meeting of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council and set the main cooperation lines.<\/p>\n

The prime minister said that the progress made in this period allowed deepening the Moldova-EU dialogue. The approval of the second progress report on the negotiations on the Moldova-EU Association Agreement was one of the main achievements. The officials noted the unprecedented dynamic within the Eastern Partnership.<\/p>\n

Filat said that once the Key Recommendations for the Moldovan Government are implemented, the EU Council will officially adopt by late May a mandate for the launch of negotiations on the creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area.<\/p>\n

"We have reported beforehand about the level of implementation of requirements in the sectors of justice and domestic affairs. A progress report on the matter will be presented to the cabinet on 15 May, which will make it possible to start talks in order to officially shift to the second stage of the implementation of the Action Plan on the liberalization of the visa regime," Filat said.<\/p>\n

The prime minister said the participants in the meeting exchanged useful opinions on cooperation per sectors.<\/p>\n

"In particular, I reiterated our gratitude to the EU for the 90 million euros in macro financial assistance. We are waiting for the second instalment of 20 million euros," Filat said.<\/p>\n

Referring to the transport sector, Filat said that Moldova communicates actively with the European Commission and voiced hope that negotiations on accession to the European Common Aviation Area will start soon.<\/p>\n

"We talked about cooperation in the energy sector in the context of our chairmanship of the Energy Community Treaty. Also, the EU reconfirmed its commitment to support our efforts to solve the Transnistrian issue in the five plus two format, including by backing the activities of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine and the confidence-building measures," Filat said.<\/p>\n

In the context, the prime minister referred to the release of jailed journalist Ernest Vardanean, noting that this was due to the joint efforts of the international community, including the EU, and of the Moldovan decision makers. Filat said that joint efforts should be further taken to secure the release of Ilie Cazac.<\/p>\n

Also, Filat said that we are about to resume official negotiations in the five plus two format, with the EU’s role being decisive in this respect.<\/p>\n

The prime minister said that Moldova’s efforts in cooperation with the EU are bringing tangible results.<\/p>\n

"The EU backs Moldova on its European integration path, which benefits directly the Moldovan citizens," the prime minister said.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat pointed out the importance of the meeting, noting that it met the expectations of both sides.<\/p>\n

"We are satisfied about the consistency and quality of the dialogue with the European Union," he concluded.<\/p>\n

Zsolt Nemeth congratulated Vlad Filat on Moldova’s results in the implementation of the European agenda, specifying that the EU lacks a success story.<\/p>\n

"We are lucky that a country called the Republic of Moldova exists today in the European Partnership, as it represents the success that we need," the official said.<\/p>\n

He noted that Moldova is passing through a comprehensive process of political and economic stabilization and urged the authorities to carry out the launched reforms in the same pace.<\/p>\n

Nemeth praised the speed of the negotiations on the Association Agreement, voicing hope that the final chapter concerning the free trade zone will be implemented soon.<\/p>\n

"We believe that the process will develop swiftly as this is the final stage of the negotiations on the Association Agreement," the diplomat said.<\/p>\n

He also said that Moldova has very good results per sectors and its intention to join the European Common Aviation Area is an example in this respect. Negotiations on the matter are to start soon.<\/p>\n

"At the end, I would like to say that I am impressed by Moldova’s mature attitude towards one of the biggest challenges, that is, the Transnistrian conflict. We hope that all the sides involved in the process will meet in June in the five plus two format, which is the only one viable, and will discuss to identify a solution," he said.<\/p>\n

Stefan Fule said the discussions during the meeting were productive, with the sides praising the speed with which Moldova is fulfilling the set objectives.<\/p>\n

"In the last two years, relations between Moldova and the EU have developed dynamically, many achievements were recorded, which proves that when a partner wants, the EU does its best to help," the commissioner said.<\/p>\n

Stefan Fule said Moldova’s progress can be described as impressive and the elections in June will repeatedly prove Moldova’s commitment to the European values.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
