Prime Minister Vlad Filat met the leadership of Banca Transilvania (BT) (Transilvania Bank) from Romania, the government’s communications and press relations department has said.<\/p>\n

The discussion was focused on the economic and financial situation in Moldova and prospects for the development of the national bank market.<\/p>\n

The head of the BT management board, Horia Ciorcila, said that he considers the opportunity to enter Moldova’s bank market. He noted that Transilvania had earlier launched a leasing company in Moldova, which currently holds a 15-per-cent market quota and has been working efficiently.<\/p>\n

"Taking into account the fact that the economic recession is surmounted and given the experience we have, we are mulling very seriously the idea of extending the activities of Banca Transilvania in your country," Horia Ciorcila emphasized.<\/p>\n

Ciorcila specified that the institution he represents is likely to initiate a string of new services in Moldova. At the same time, Horia Ciorcila said that he could attract new business people to Moldova as well.<\/p>\n

The prime minister thanked the leadership of Banca Transilvania for their interest in Moldova, stressing that the country needs to attract investments and diversify the bank services.<\/p>\n

"Namely the bank system is the driving force that should generate added value as a result of the economic growth," the prime minister said. He pointed out that, in 2010, Moldova recorded a 6.9-per-cent economic growth, and this tendency is maintained in 2011 too.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that a sound competition, based on quality services, is what Moldova needs.<\/p>\n
