\nThe prices on foodstuff went up 2.5% in January 2011 against December 2010, press service of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) said.<\/p>\n

According to the NBM statement, the price growth was caused by the potatoes cost increase (up 14.7%) due to the regional price increase of main exporters – Poland, Ukraine and the Netherlands; on vegetables (up 8.3%), eggs (up 7.8%), sugar (up 5.4%) and fresh fruit (up 4.8%), caused by the seasonal factor, as well as the existent condition at the international and local markets.<\/p>\n

According to the NBM, the fuel prices went up 3.3% in January 2011 due to the price rising on container gas (up 5.3%), coal (up 3.2%) and fuel (up 2.2%).<\/p>\n

"The change of prices of fuels and lubricants is caused by the heating season peculiarities, as well as increase of petroleum international prices, which concurred with the slow leu depreciation in end-2010", the NBM statement said.<\/p>\n

According to the data, provided by the National Bureau of Statistics, the consumer price index growth (for over last 12 months) reached 6.7% in January 2011, going down 1.4 percentage points in comparison to the last month level.<\/p>\n

The data corresponds to the NBM inflation forecast on 2011, published in the inflation report-1 for 2011.<\/p>\n

The monthly inflation level reached 1.1%. It is conditional on the foodstuff price increase (up 2.5%), non-foodstuff goods (up 0.4%) and services (0.3%).<\/p>\n

The NBM said the inflation level changing in January was caused by seasonal factors, attending the winter season, as well as growth of prices on foodstuff and fuels and lubricants.<\/p>\n

The last tariff changes in 2011 will be reflected in the inflation statistics data for 1st quarter of the year. The price rising is lower than in the beginning of 2010, so it will not considerably influence the annual inflation.
