\nWith illegal financial flows worth about 375 million dollars entering Moldova annually, the country ranks 82nd among 125 countries on a top compiled by Global Financial Integrity (CFI) in the report "Illicit Financial Flows from Developing Countries: 2000-2009".<\/p>\n

The authors of the survey have said that estimations are conservative and do not show the maximal values. The maximal annual average would be 401 million dollars.<\/p>\n

The report shows that currency outflows from Moldova amounted to about 1.9 billion dollars, 182 million dollars on average annually. The size of financial outflows from Moldova is much smaller than from other states, while taking into account the fact that the largest sum, 654 million dollars, was recorded in 2000.<\/p>\n

Local experts regard as exaggerated the estimations of the illicit financial flows for Moldova. They named the non-repatriation of currency from exports, overestimation of prices for imports and underestimation of exports among the channels through which the capital is taken out of Moldova.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan National Statistics Bureau said that "the elements of the unnoticed economy" contributed 23 per cent to the formation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first nine months of 2010. The GDP reached 52.2 billion lei in January-September 2010.<\/p>\n

The GFI described bribe, corruption, theft and fiscal evasion as the catalysts of the illicit financial flows. The most spread one is the distortion of the value of goods at customs points. Experts said that contraband, some types of underestimation of goods and exchange of assets were not taken into consideration.<\/p>\n

The first five positions on this top are held by China (241.7 billion dollars), Russia (47.47 billion dollars), Mexico (46.23 billion dollars), Saudi Arabia (33.5 billion dollars), and Malaysia (32.6 billion dollars).<\/p>\n
