\nPrime Minister Vlad Filat chaired a meeting focused on increase in prices, the government’s communications and press relations department has said.<\/p>\n

Attending the meeting were representatives of the Economics Ministry, Finance Ministry, Agriculture and Food Ministry, Interior Ministry and of the Centre for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption.<\/p>\n

Filat said that the meeting was summoned in order to examine prices of utilities and of first necessity goods and to decide upon steps that are to be taken in order to secure the observance of legislation and of real prices.<\/p>\n

Deputy Premier, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar unveiled a detailed report on the evolution of annual consumer price index in Moldova, which reached 8.1 per cent in 2010. He also presented prospects for 2011 in this sector. Valeriu Lazar said that the 2010 economic trend would continue in 2011, as it is determined by tendencies on regional markets. Lazar said that the increase in prices of oil and natural gas was caused by the situation on the international market. Moreover, the minister said that the mechanism for regulating prices of these products issued by the National Agency for Regulation of Energy (ANRE) has certain gaps. He added that an increase in tariffs on natural gas is inevitable, as the basic costs for natural gas supply is higher in line with the contracts signed in the past years. The deputy premier said that following prime minister’s indications, experts are seeking solutions to diversify the energy sources. Proposals in this respect are to be put forward soon.<\/p>\n

The premier said that a working meeting with ANRE representatives and energy market operators should be held in order to identify efficient solutions to secure real prices of oil and energy resources.<\/p>\n

"Please tell the participants in this meeting that changes in the prices of oil products should be operated only following an increase or decrease in prices on the international market," the premier said. He noted that these actions should be efficiently managed, including at the level of formation of reserves.<\/p>\n

The prices of foodstuffs and consumption goods are to be permanently monitored and analyzed within the framework of the national committees, made up of experts of the Economics Ministry and Agriculture and Food Ministry, according to the goods’ category. Proposals on prompt measures against groundless increase in prices of these products, including by export limitations, are to be carried out. Furthermore, the participants stressed the importance to observe the rules of the market economy and the commitments assumed by Moldova as a member of the World Trade Organization.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat expressed discontent with the activity of the fiscal institutions in preventing and combating fiscal infringements and pointed out that the numerous controls should improve the situation. He added that, if necessary, proposals of adjusting the normative framework should be issued.<\/p>\n

Filat mentioned the importance of anticipating the increase in prices of goods and services and asked decision-makers to seriously analyze the situation on the domestic and international market.<\/p>\n

In the context, Filat asked the relevant bodies to present their positions and proposals on the matter by 24 January 2011. He added that a meeting should be held in the week to come in order to examine the situation in the field of fiscal regulation.<\/p>\n

The Labour, Social Protection and Family Ministry in concert with other state institutions, is to carry out concrete proposals of allotting social compensations to the citizens in order to lessen the consequences of the eventual increase in prices of utilities and goods and to ensure the financial coverage of the above-mentioned stipulations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
