It is the first airport in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to get this accreditation.<\/p>\n<p>The PR manager of the Chisinau International Airport, Adriana Doruc, has said that the certificate is the official recognition of the airport&#8217;s efforts to protect the environment. Thus, the Chisinau International Airport became one of the airports characterized by a low level of emissions in the atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>The Airport Carbon Accreditation is a European standard for airports. It is the only independent programme, approved by institutions and designed for airports. The programme comprises four accreditation levels: mapping, reduction, optimization and neutrality of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Presently, only 30 European airports, including the Budapest airport (Mapping), the Brussels airport (Reduction), the Zurich airport (Optimization) and the Oslo airport (Neutrality) have passed this accreditation.<\/p>\n<p>The airports accredited so far hold over 35 per cent of the annual European air traffic.
