Prime Minister Vlad Filat on 20 July met members of the Con-federal Council of the National Trade Unions Confederation, the government’s press service has said.<\/p>\n

The head of the National Trade Unions Confederation, Oleg Budza, listed a string of economic and social problems tackled by the trade unions. He stressed that the present meeting with the prime minister will be an impetus to settle them.<\/p>\n

One of these problems is the need to work out and adopt a law on subsistence allowance. Vlad Filat said that such a legislative act is necessary and urged the trade unions to actively participate in the elaboration of the draft.<\/p>\n

Another important issue, according to the trade unions, resides in increasing the minimal wage up to the level of the subsistence allowance. The prime minister said that this is a big problem, as there are categories of budgetary employees having low salaries.<\/p>\n

"The fact that we managed to additionally gain 1.2 billion lei till the rectification of the 2010 state budget law instills optimism," Vlad Filat said.<\/p>\n

The prime minister specified that, till late 2010, another two budget rectifications are likely to be made, thus using important sums of money to cover social needs, including wage payment. A new increase in salaries for teachers is scheduled for the first half of 2011.<\/p>\n

As concerns salary arrears, Vlad Filat underlined that the sums seen to this end have been paid off from the state budget in duetime. The prime minister said that in the real sector, the problem should be discussed with the employers’ participation as well.<\/p>\n

Referring to the elaboration of a new mechanism of the residents’ incomes demanded by trade unions, Vlad Filat said that it is more important to increase the salaries, first of all the low ones.<\/p>\n

The prime minister backed the proposal to work out and approve labour type norms. He said that this issue will be considered at a cabinet meeting on 21 July.<\/p>\n

The participants in the meeting also tacked the construction of social dwellings, liquidation of the underground economy, the situation in the bank system, increase in allocations for the treatment in spas and distribution of treatment tickets, etc.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that all the problems tackled at the meeting should be examined, and settled as far as possible.<\/p>\n
