Negotiations on the Disaster and Climate Risk Management Project between the Moldovan government and the World Bank have been concluded, the government’s press service has said.<\/p>\n

The project is aimed at lessening Moldova’s vulnerability to climate risks. The goal will be met due to: 1) monitoring of weather and emission of warnings about climate risks by providing precise weather forecasts and services in due time; 2) management and coordination of responses to natural and human-triggered disasters; 3) support for private persons, in particular farmers, to become aware and adapt to climate risks and change.<\/p>\n

The crediting instrument proposed for this four-year project is a special investment loan of 10 million dollars due to be given for 20 years with a grace period of 10 years by the International Development Association (IDA).<\/p>\n

State Minister Victor Bodiu said that the project was important for Moldova as it could contribute to improving the state of things in this sector. "The project proves that Moldova has effective cooperation relations with the World Bank, which is a sincere and reliable partner of our country," Bodiu said.<\/p>\n

World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Melanie Marlett said that the draught in 2007 and flooding in 2008 and 2010 confirm the imperative need for actions to diminish the impact of natural disasters on Moldova’s people and economy. "We are glad that the government pays increased attention to this sector.
