Südzucker Moldova SA, a sugar beet processor and refiner in Moldova, announced the details of a new project to construct a biogas production facility based on sugar beet pulp in the city of Drochia. The company made the announcement about the facility, in which the company will invest EUR 10 million of its own money, on Wednesday, Apr. 14.<\/p>\n

In response to low demand for sugar beet pulp among local and international livestock farmers, Südzucker Moldova investigated other uses for sugar beet pulp, which led the company to consider biogas production. The biogas production facility outlined in the recent company presentation will be able to process organic waste from Südzucker Moldova’s sugar refining operations in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner, a fact that could lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a lessening of the company’s impact on the region’s ecology.<\/p>\n

As part of the presentation, management of Südzucker Moldova presented details of the plan as part of an investment project, including outlining the conditions necessary for its implementation. According to the details of the project, the company expects to complete the biogas production facility by 2011-2012, with the investment to be recouped within approximately eight years. To date the company has invested approx. MDL 372 million to upgrade its sugar beet production in the Republic of Moldova, including MDL 52.5 million to intensify its cultivation of sugar beet in the country.<\/p>\n
