The Chisinau international airport (IATA: KIV; ICAO: LUKK) has officially announced the opening of three new air lines – to Munich, from April 22, to Antalia – from April 19 and to Surgut – from May 2.<\/p>\n

Director General of the airport Roman Podkoritov said at news conference on Friday that the expansion of the flight geography will be owing to the airport’s new partners – Lufthansa company (Germany), Atlasjet (Turkey) and UTair (Russia).<\/p>\n

He also declared that at the beginning of June the Air Moldova Company will begin flights on two new lines – to Sochi and to Varna.<\/p>\n

Podcoritov expressed confidence that the new lines will considerably augment the passenger flow through the airport.<\/p>\n

According to him, 809.07 thousand passengers recurred to the airport’s services in 2009. The maximal passenger flow was registered in August, when it constituted 100.22 thousand and the minimal in February – 43.57 thousand. Alongside with this, the passenger flow in 2009 exceeded the passenger flow in 2007 by 17.3%.<\/p>\n

Podcoritov said that the global financial economic crisis diminished the passenger flow by 4.7% against 2008.<\/p>\n

Touching on the second airport modernization project, the Director underlined that beside the construction of a new multistory parking and the rehabilitation of the runaway, the airport has also the task to attract new air companies, including low-cost ones and opening of new lines.<\/p>\n

The total cost of the airport infrastructure modernization project accounts for 47.25 million Euros, which will be granted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank. In the frame of the project it is planned to expand the airport terminal by at least 1 thousand square meters, which area will meet the needs of the airport for the nearest eight years.
