The Cuciurgan power plan (left bank of Dniestre or the Nistru River) will deliver electric energy to operators from the right bank of Dniestre at a price of 5.5 cents for one KW\/hour starting from 1 March 2010, against 5.8 cents per one KW\/hour so far.<\/p>\n

The Union Fenosa company, which ensures the delivery of electricity in Chisinau, central and southern Moldova, and the state company Energocom, on behalf of the Power Distribution Networks Nord and Nord-Vest (RED-Nord and RED-Nord-Vest) signed contracts with the Cuciurgan power station today.<\/p>\n

Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar has told a news conference that the documents were signed for a 13-month period, and see a stable price of 5.5 cents on all this period. Under these contracts, the Union Fenosa company is to buy 2.4 billion KW\/hour of electric energy, and Energocom – about one billion KW\/hour of electricity for RED-Nord and RED-Nord-Vest.<\/p>\n

Lazar specified that the signing of the concerned contracts both by the Union Fenosa company and Energocom with the Ciciurgan power plant was possible due to the liberalisation of the electric energy market in Moldova. The concerned process allows electricity providers signing direct contracts with the energy producers. So far, the Moldovan electricity distribution networks have been buying electric energy through the national operator, company Energocom.<\/p>\n

Attending the news conference, the head of the Cuciurgan power station s administration council, Carina Turcan, said that the concerned contract is important for the power plant. She also said that the results of a meeting of the Moldovan-Russian joint governmental commission, recently held in Chisinau, represented an essential factor for cutting the delivery price of the electricity for the right bank of Dniestre. Turcan said that the reduction of the price will be possible due to a decrease of the spending included in the enterprise’s business plan and use of other kinds of fuel than gas, if necessary.<\/p>\n

The Cuciurgan power plant belongs to the Russian energy company Inter RAO EES, and supplies 70 per cent of the necessary quantity of electric energy for Moldova. The rest of the electricity is supplied by the producers from the right bank of Dniestre.
