The [price] of Russian [natural] gas supplied to Moldova may reduce in the third quarter of 2009, Moldovan First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Dodon has told a news conference.<\/p>\n

Dodon, who is now running for a parliamentary seat on the ticket of the ruling Communist Party, said that the exact price will become known by the end of next week.<\/p>\n

Dodon did not rule out that the decrease in the price of Russian gas will allow the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) to reduce the gas rates for Moldovan consumers.<\/p>\n

As already reported by Infotag, Moldova paid $332.6 per 1,000 cubic meters of Russian gas in the first quarter of 2009 and $249.44 in the second quarter. However, then the NAER did not find is possible to reduce the rates for domestic consumers.<\/p>\n

The last time, the NAER reviewed gas rates in July 2008 and increased them by 27%. The NAER explained the decision by the fact that the price of Russian gas jumped from $191 to $253.
