The German company Hochtief AirPort GmbH has won a tender for the elaboration of projects for the modernisation of the Chisinau International Airport. Over 30 companies submitted their tender bids.<\/p>\n

The projecting works will last almost a year and will cost 873,000 euros, amount due to be covered by the Chisinau International Airport State Enterprise, the Airport s director-general, Roman Podcoritov, told a news conference today.<\/p>\n

Another tender will be held in the first half of the 2010 and the winning company will restore the runway, circulation ways and the platform by the end of the year. Subsequently, in 2011, the company is to extend the terminal passenger capacities with 5,000 square metres, the executive head of the German company, Rudolf Burkhalter said.<\/p>\n

Podcoritov announced that the Airport’s activity will not be interrupted during its restoration. The works are to be carried out during night hours, when flights will be suspended. At the same time, Podcoritov urged passengers to come out with suggestions for the airport’s restoration.<\/p>\n

The airport s infrastructure restoration and modernisation will lead to investments attraction. At the same time, it will strengthen Moldova’s transport security and its integration in the international transport flow.<\/p>\n

As many as 47 million euros are needed for the airport s modernisation. The sum is to be covered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which is to give a credit of 25.5 million euros, the European Bank of Investments 20 million euros and the European Fund for Investment and Neighbourhood 1.75 million euros in technical assistance.
