Moldova will be part of a project for the construction of an international road to connect the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea, stated Deputy Minister of Constructions and Territorial Development, Vasile Ursu, at the international conference “Development of Transport Connections in the Baltic Sea and Black Sea region”, held on Thursday, April 23.<\/p>\n

“The construction of the road to connect the ports of the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea will allow for economic development of the seven countries it will cross”, noted the official.<\/p>\n

According to Vasile Ursu, the international road will cross Moldova from Sculeni customs through Chisinau, then through Gura Bicului to Tiraspol. “This high speed international road will make a detour of the localities for population’s safety”, stressed Ursu.<\/p>\n

He noted that to this end, the road segment Sculeni-Chisinau-Tiraspol (200 km) must be rehabilitated, and the repair costs may go up to 200 mln USD (1 km – 1 mln USD). “The figure is not final, as it will be determined in a conference that will discuss the aspects and financial sources to come from the EU”, said the deputy minister.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Vasile Ursu reiterated the fact that financial sources for the repair of the Chisinau-Tiraspol segment have already been offered by the US Millennium Challenge Corporation.<\/p>\n

According to the international experts, the connection between the Baltic and Black Seas will allow for the development of the logistics centers located at crossroads to the W-E and N-S directions (along the Schengen border). Also, the construction of the road represents a prerequisite for the free movement of goods, services, capital adn people among the EU countries.<\/p>\n

The road will cross Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
