Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade, Iurie Munteanu, proposed to the European Commission to increase the quotas provided under the preferential regime for Moldova in 2010. The request was made during the meeting with the Head of Department for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia of the EC, Gunnar Wiegand, on Tuesday, April 21.<\/p>\n

In his turn, the representative of the European institution, Gunnar Wiegand noted that currently the EC is conducting a study aimed at assessing the level of preparedness of Moldova for the next stage in the evolution of its commercial relations with the EU, namely the signing of the Advanced Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and the EU.<\/p>\n

According to the European official, signing such an agreement would imply not only trading goods, but also services between Moldova and the EU.<\/p>\n

At the same time, they discussed and appreciated during the meeting the successes achieved by the Moldovan economic agents in the first four months of 2009, in terms of using the quotas offered for exporting to the EU.<\/p>\n

According to the Moldovan official, in the first four months of this year, Moldova used practically the entire quota of 30 000 tonnes of wheat, as well as 44.8% of the sugar export quota and 41% of the wine export quota under the Autonomous Trade Preferences (ATP).<\/p>\n

The ATP were provided to Moldova from 1 March 2008, with a view to liberaliye the trade with the EU and ensure a favorable economic and investment environment.
