The Producer Price Index for finished goods in the United States rose slightly in February, for the second straight month, the government said Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The PPI rose 0.1 percent during the month, after climbing 0.8 percent in January. The figure helps dispel the fear of short-term deflation, although prices are down 1.3 percent from February 2008.<\/p>\n

Energy prices rose 1.3 percent after a 3.7 percent rise January. Half of the increase was due to slower gasoline price increases, up 8.7 percent after a 15 percent rise a month ago, the report said.<\/p>\n

Food prices continued falling, however, dropping 1.6 percent after a 0.4 percent drop a month ago. Prices for fresh vegetables fell 4.1 percent, while prices for eggs, soft drinks and processed chickens also fell.<\/p>\n

Excluding food and energy, prices rose 0.2 percent after rising 0.4 percent a month ago.<\/p>\n

Under core prices, producers saw price increases in light motor trucks, turbines and generators, household appliances and apparel, which offset price declines in consumer plastics, sporting goods, small arms and motor homes built on purchased chassis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
