The leader of the Social Democratic Party of Moldova (PSD) Dumitru Braghis says that though the Government and the World Bank deny it, the world financial crisis has already hit Moldova. <\/p>\n

At a news conference on Wednesday, Dumitru Braghis said that the purchasing power of the population decreased in September and, consequently, imports also fell. Also, many of the Moldovans that work abroad will remain without a job and will have to come back home.

\n“In the run-up to the spring legislative elections, the crisis will be seriously felt in Moldova, but the Government will not be functional at that moment. Therefore, measures should be taken now,” Braghis said, adding that the National Bank and the Government do not yet have a concrete action plan, while the steps taken cannot remedy the situation. <\/p>\n

Braghis said that the statements assert that the banking sector was not hit and there is sufficient liquidity. Yet, the other sectors of the economy have been affected. <\/p>\n

“We already live in crisis conditions as the construction sector stagnates,” said the PSD representative Ruslan Barladeanu. He stressed that though the prices could fall, especially of apartments, the population would be affected as the incomes would decrease. <\/p>\n

Recently, the IMF Resident Representative in Moldova Johan Mathisen said that the financial system in Moldova will not be affected by the world financial crisis, but the real sector of the economy would sustain losses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
