The International Monetary Fund is satisfied with the rate of inflation in Moldova and considers that this year inflation will not be higher than 9-10%, the IMF Resident Representative in Chisinau Johan Mathisen said Tuesday, stressing that the high inflation in the past few years was the main reason for concern in the dialogue between the IMF and the Government of Moldova. <\/p>\n

According to the IMF official, the lower inflation is due to the measures implemented by the Government of Moldova and the central bank. He said that the rate of inflation is influenced by the lower oil and food prices on the world markets.

\nMathisen said that if the rate of inflation is maintained and the energy resources go down in price, the inflation in 2009 could be lower than 9.8% as projected. He stressed that the lower inflation will permit to attract new investment, will stimulate economic growth and contribute to lower poverty rate. <\/p>\n

The IMF official said that the GDP growth in Moldova this year would be 6.5% or even higher owing to the good harvest in agriculture.
