The wheat harvest this year will total 1.3 million tonnes – three times larger than last year, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatol Gorodenco announced. <\/p>\n

According to Gorodenco, only 425,000 tonnes of wheat were harvested last year owing to the severe drought. This year, only the food wheat yield is expected to exceed 400,000 tonnes. Moldova needs 345,000 tonnes of food wheat a year for domestic consumption. <\/p>\n

In another development, Gorodenco said that the grains of the first group have been practically harvested. The first-group grains and the rape this year occupied about 570,000 hectares. The wheat fields occupied more than 380,000 hectares. <\/p>\n
