The Government proposes introducing a safeguard tax on the import of confectionery into Moldova until 2012. The Government Wednesday approved a legislative initiative to amend the law on safeguard measures. <\/p>\n

Under the draft law, a special customs tax of 20%, but not less than 60 euros per tonne, will be imposed on sugary products, including white chocolate, and other food products that contain cocoa from September 1 to December 31, 2008. <\/p>\n

From 2009, the given tax will be 19.5%, but not less than 57.5 euros per tonne, from 2010 – 19%, but not less than 55 euros per tonne, from 2011 – 2012 – 18.5%, but not less than 52.5 euros per tonne. <\/p>\n
