In exchange for maintaining the preferential price for Moldova until June 2009, Ukraine demanded that Moldova imports electric power from Ukraine from two operators. The export price and volume will be fixed by Ukraine, IS Energocom says in a communique. <\/p>\n

Energocom is the commercial operator that imported power from Ukraine into Moldova between March 2005 until present. Ukraine has announced that if the conditions are not accepted, the contract with Energocom will be terminated and the power supplies to Moldova will be halted. <\/p>\n

The management of Energocom said that the power line Artiz – Bolgrad will supply power to Odessa bypassing Moldova. Therefore, there is no need to maintain the price of power and the importation scheme as the power is not transported via Moldova anymore. <\/p>\n

Energocom says that the solution identified at the talks with the Ukrainian side is the most advantageous for Moldova. The Moldovan consumers will be supplied with power at the most favorable price in the region and will save about US$5 million. The average price in the region is about US$0.074\/kWh or by US$0.02 lower than the price for Moldova. <\/p>\n
