Apple producers from ten districts of the country will set up a Fruit Growers Association that will represent their interests in the relations with fruit buyers and state authorities. <\/p>\n

The association will manage the information about the quantities and cost prices of the fruit, will contribute to the formation of the selling price and will negotiate optimal conditions for its members with national and foreign experts. The decision to create the association was taken at the national meeting of apple producers held last weekend. <\/p>\n

The meeting elected an Initiative Council that will work out a set of proposals for the senior authorities, including the Competition Protection Agency, within a week. The proposals will focus on the discriminatory attitude towards producers and on prices. Presently, the processing plants purchase apples for 0.6-0.8 lei a kilogram, while the cost price is 1.8-2.1 lei a kilogram. <\/p>\n

The Initiative Council called on the national apple producers that face similar problems to join the Fruit Growers Association. <\/p>\n

At the first stage, the association will receive institutional assistance from the National Farmers Federation AGROinform.
