The possibility of privatizing the thermoelectric plants (CETs) could be examined by the Parliament this autumn. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon told the reporters that the MPs’ initiative that envisions striking the thermoelectric plants off the list of state facilities that cannot be privatized would be discussed this autumn, during the autumn-winter session of the Parliament. <\/p>\n

According to him, the Government is now considering establishing a public-private partnership in order to reschedule the CETs’ debts for gas, convert them into shares and transfer them to Moldova-Gaz. The CETs accumulated debts to Moldova-Gaz especially because Termocom did not pay for the heat supplied by the thermoelectric plants. <\/p>\n

The three thermoelectric power plants will be privatized in order to make Moldova less dependent on foreign electric power. The capacities of the plants can be improved by attracting private investment.
