Czech development aid primarily goes to Moldova, Angola, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Vietnam, Yemen and Zambia. The NGOs’ criticism of the Czech Republic for not fulfilling its commitments concerning the amount and quality of development aid is partially unjustified, Czech deputy foreign minister Jan Kohout said Tuesday after a meeting of EU ministers dealing with development aid. <\/p>\n

The Czech development aid has been rising in the past few years, but its share in GDP has been decreasing, Kohout admitted. <\/p>\n

According to the Prague Daily Monitor, representatives of the Czech Forum for Development Cooperation recalled on Monday that the new EU members, including the Czech Republic, should allocate 0.33 percent of GDP to development aid by 2015, but they have so far failed to meet this commitment. <\/p>\n

Kohout pointed out that aid to the poor can be provided even without reaching the set financial target. Not only figures, but real results at a concrete place matter, he added. <\/p>\n

In 2006, the Czech Republic earmarked 3.5 billion crowns, that is 0.12 percent of GDP, for development aid, and in 2007 it was 3.6 billion, which was, however, only 0.11 percent of GDP. <\/p>\n
