Moldova’s external debt increased by over 30% (776.51 mln USD) in 2007 and amounted to 3 bn 300.29 mln USD, show the preliminary data of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM). <\/p>\n

According to NBM, the public debt and state guaranteed increased from 876.36 mn USD at the end of 2006 up to 938.65 mln USD at the end of 2007. At the same time, the private non-guaranteed external debt constituted over 2.36 bn USD and registered an advance of 43.4%. NBM statistics show that at the end of last year the loans accounted for 48.7% of the total external debt of Moldova. The external commitments in the form of debts and securities were distributed as follows: 40.2% of them are public debt, 58.4% private non-guaranteed debt, and 1.4% private debt guaranteed by the Government. During the year the private non-guaranteed debt increased by 58.6%. <\/p>\n

In 2007 NBM received from the IMF loans of 33.27 mln USD and reimbursed earlier contracted loans in the amount of 22.06 mln USD. <\/p>\n

At the same time, the government sector enjoyed 47.36 mln USD and paid principals payable to loans and securities in the amount of 35.96 mln USD. <\/p>\n

The stock of commitments of the enterprises guaranteed by the Government reduced during the last year by 13.3%, and no new loans guaranteed by the executive were provided. <\/p>\n

The private sector enjoyed new loans of 648.39 mln USD, of which over 161 mln USD to the commercial banks, and the rest to enterprises in other sectors. The enterprises paid principals payable in the amount of about 201 mln USD. <\/p>\n

Thus, according to NBM, the external commitments in the form of loans and securities, including arrears to them, increased during the last year up to over 2.25 bn USD.
