The traditional Christmas dinner will be a luxury for many Moldovans this year, namely for the lovers of special recipes, following the high prices of food. <\/p>\n

The pork and sausages have higher prices at holidays. The prices are still likely to grow closer to New Year at dairy and meat, and will keep by January 7, when the Moldovans celebrate Christmas by the old calendar. <\/p>\n

At the central market place, a kg of pork costs 50-60 lei (about five dollars), turkey – from two to four hundred lei. Ten eggs cost up to 20 lei, while the aviary units market ten eggs at the price of 15-17 lei. The beef cheese is 23-25 lei, and the sheep cheese-40-50 lei. A kg of smoked ham is up to one hundred lei. <\/p>\n

The imported tomatoes cost 25-30 lei a kg, cucumbers–20 lei, mushrooms-35-40 lei a jar. <\/p>\n

The knot-shaped bread for the Christmas carolers costs about three lei, and cheaper sweets are 20 lei. The citruses have the same price as last year: mandarins-20-25 lei, bananas-15-20 lei\/kg. The champagne, which cannot miss the festive dinner, is about 30 lei a bottle. <\/p>\n

In spite of the growing prices, the traders are sure the sales will not decrease, as the housewives will give any money to have a complete dinner. <\/p>\n
