Moldova increased energy imports (natural gas, refined oil products, coal, among other things) by 12.7 percent to 278,700 tonnes in the first half of 2007 compared to the same period a year earlier, Moldova’s National Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) reported today. According to ANRE, the republic imported 100,400 tonnes of petrol (up 10.4 percent), 155,700 tonnes of diesel fuel (up 14.6 percent), and 23,500 tonnes of liquefied gas (up 15.2 percent). <\/p>\n

The agency’s experts say that this advance in refined oil products imports to Moldova in January-June 2007 may be traced to a higher demand for them on the country’s domestic market. Thus, an average price on petrol went up by 32 percent and stood at $732.5 per tonne and $613 per tonne of diesel fuel.
