Moldova’s food security is stable at present, and all the premises are created to keep the situation under control, Premier Vasile Tarlev said at a today’s meeting of the republican commission for emergencies, according to the executive’s press service. <\/p>\n

Officials have said that reserves of wheat of 83,000 tons have been created in most administrative territorial units. Five districts have not provided information on the wheat reserves, including Cantemir, Causeni, Riscani, Falesti. <\/p>\n

The republican commission warned the district heads and the chairpersons of the district commissions for emergencies over the need to ensure of the administrative-territorial unit’s food security. <\/p>\n

As for the increase in bread price in several districts, the prime minister stressed that its artificial rise is economically ungrounded, and with the crisis in the agro-food sector, the structure of prices for social food products will be strictly monitored so as not to allow speculations. <\/p>\n

The head of the executive said the government has now enough wheat to intervene on the market if necessary, including through the Universal Commodity Exchange, thus contributing to maintaining stability on the market. <\/p>\n

According to a report unveiled by the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the ministry has already transferred the money meant to additionally subsidize farmers to prepare the land plots for autumn sowing and buy seed material. The last two days rains favoured the carrying out of the scheduled works, and about 25 per cent of the farmlands planned for sowing have been tilled so far. <\/p>\n

Data put out by the Foreign and European Integration Ministry show that more states and international organisations have reacted to requests of help by Moldova’s government to overcome the effects of drought. The governments of Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia have already approved decisions on financial assistance and food products for Moldova. <\/p>\n

To efficiently and transparently receive, stock and distribute the aid which will come from development partners, the government ruled to set up a special commission due to strictly monitor this process.
