As much as 3,400 tons of wheat have been purchased for the state reserve out of the necessary quantity of 30,000 tons during the first round of national tenders, the director of the Agency of Material Reserves, Public Acquisitions and Humanitarian Assistance, Ion Turcan, has said. <\/p>\n

Turcan stressed that, during the tender on 6-20 July, the acquisition price for one kilogram of wheat was 3-3.2 lei. He also said that, to complete the state reserve, the second round of tenders in each Moldovan district will be announced on 31 July. Turcan voiced hope that the whole quantity of wheat necessary for the state reserve will be bought through this action, otherwise the state is likely to resort to import. <\/p>\n

The director of the above agency said that the purchased wheat is of a good quality. The small volume of acquisition is reasoned by the fact that many agricultural producers have not decided to sell cereals as yet, because of the compromised harvest of the majority of the crops in 2007. <\/p>\n
