The Ministry of Economy and Commerce released on Thursday data on the progress of the key macroeconomic indicators in the first quarter of this year. <\/p>\n

According to the official data, the inflation rate was of 2.1% in March 2007 compared to December 2006. The Moldovan Leu appreciated by 3% compared to the US Dollar in three months, from 12.91 MDL\/US$ at the beginning of the year up to 12.52 MDL\/US$ at the end of March. Compared to euro, the Moldovan leu appreciated with 1.5%. <\/p>\n

The monetary mass M3 increased by 22.3% and reached 19.9 billion lei late in March. The evolution of the monetary mass was determined in particular by the increase of the deposits in national and foreign currency as well as of the volume of money in circulation. <\/p>\n

On March 31, 2007, the foreign currency deposits amounted to 7.2 billion lei and marked an increase of 37.8% compared to the end of March 2006. The economy’s balance of credit increased by 37.7%, reaching 14.8 billion lei. <\/p>\n

\"\"The report of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce also specifies that in January-February 2007 goods exports totaled US$160 million, 4.6 per cent up against January-February 2006. Supplies to the CIS accounted for 31.7% of the total; however the embargo imposed by the Russian Federation against imports of Moldovan wine productions determined a reduction of exports to these countries in the amount of US$23.7 million compared to 2006. Russia still has the greatest share – 14.6% of the total export volume. <\/p>\n

Goods exports to the EU countries increased by 31.1% and totaled US$89.8 million. Considerable increases of exports were reported to Romania (1.4 times), Italy (14.5%), Germany (1.7 times), United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (2.4 times). <\/p>\n

In the first two months of 2007, goods imports increased by 42.9% and totaled US$456.8 million. CIS imports continue to be significant, Russia and Ukraine being the main suppliers. Imports from the EU countries increased by 1.6 times and amounted to US$202.8 million in January-February 2007. <\/p>\n

In January-March 2007, revenues in the amount of 4.9 billion lei were collected to the national public budget, 37.3% up compared to the same period of 2006. <\/p>\n

The volume of the industrial production reduced by 11.5% in comparable prices in January- March 2007 compared to the reference period of the previous year and amounted to 5.3 billion lei. <\/p>\n

The nominal salary of the national economy increased by 9.4% and amounted to 1,783 lei in January-March this year. <\/p>\n

The wages in agriculture, hunting and forestry are lower than the average salary per national economy, amounting to only 947 lei, in education to 1,199 lei, in health and social assistance 1,360 lei, other collective, social and personal services to 1,458 lei. <\/p>\n
