The National Regulatory Agency in Telecommunications and Informatics (NRATI) believes that the users of mobile telephony service can only win from the entrance on the market of the two new service providers – “Moldtelecom” and “Eventis Mobile”. The first one already launched the new network in CDMA 2000 standard, under the brand “Unite” at the beginning of March, and the second operator intends to put into operation its network in GSM 900\/1800 standard during this year. <\/p>\n

Deputy Director of NRATI Stanislav Gordea expects investments, competition and quality of services to increase due to the new operators. <\/p>\n

Gordea denied the affirmations spread by the media lately on the lack of prospect for mobile telephony expansion in Moldova, specifying that the market has enough room for new operators. “This fact is confirmed by the growth pace of the penetration rate. Over the last three years, this index has tripled – from 13% in 2003, to 39.6% in 2006. Gordea mentioned that the Agency will provide equal conditions for the activity of the four operators and will strengthen partnership between them in the interest of consumers. <\/p>\n

\"\"According to Gordea, the licences granted to the new operators include conditions similar to the ones offered to – “Voxtel” and “Moldcell”, specifying that some requirements set for “Eventis Mobile” are even harsher than of the aforementioned operators in their first years of activity. “Eventis Mobile” has to cover with radio signal the Municipality of Chisinau and Balti, the adjacent towns and raions and 40% of the population of Moldova by the end of the first operation year. At the end of the third year, the company should cover the entire territory of Moldova with radio signal and 90% of population. <\/p>\n
