A group of Azeri experts will arrive in Moldova this June to look at the opportunities to extract oil on the territory of the republic, announced Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev in a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan. <\/p>\n

Tarlev noted that Azerbaijan would be able to provide Moldova with assistance in this sphere, because it has rich experience in oil extraction, and Moldova "is only at the beginning". According to the prime minister, there are oil resources in Moldova at a depth of more than 1200 meters, and in 2005, 30 thousand tons of oil were extracted here. <\/p>\n

The Government’s press service specifies that during the visit it has been decided that Moldova and Azerbaijan will establish joint enterprises to process agricultural and food products, in particular, meat, milk, and grapes. Azeri businessmen were interested in the offer to purchase Moldovan wines and eventually invest in our country’s oil industry. <\/p>\n

"There are certain obstacles in the taxation policy, but they will be removed", Vasile Tarlev said. <\/p>\n

Moldovan official reminded that in 2006, Moldova became CEFTA-2 member and already enjoys a preferential asymmetric trade regime with nine countries, and about 2000 Moldovan items have access on the European Union market duty free. <\/p>\n

Preliminary agreements about opening an Azeri chamber of commerce in Moldova and a Moldovan chamber of commerce in Azerbaijan; inauguration of a flight and bus route to travel between Chisinau-Baku, and organization of Azerbaijan Days in Chisinau this October, and Moldovan Days in Baku in 2008 were among the other agreements reached during the visit to Baku. <\/p>\n
