The average natural gas tariff for the final consumers was increased by 9% – from 2 335 lei to 2 545 lei per thousand cubic meters. The new tariffs were approved by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) on Wednesday, at the request of the joint company Moldova-Gaz. <\/p>\n

Nicolai Triboi, head of the ANRE, told a news conference that under the decision made, the gas tariff for residential consumers that use up to 30 cubic meters of gas monthly will be 2 406 lei per thousand cubic meters. The household consumers that use more than 30 cubic meters of gas a month as well as all the economic agents will pay 3 022 lei per thousand cubic meters. <\/p>\n

The thermoelectric power plants will pay 1 955 lei per thousand cubic meters of consumed gas, as against 846 lei before. The tariffs do not include the 5% VAT. <\/p>\n

Nicolai Triboi said that the rise in gas tariffs comes on the back of the increase in the price of the Russian gas supplied to Moldova from January 1, 2007, from $160 to $170 per thousand cubic meters, of the losses supported by Moldova -Gaz after the transportation charges had been increased, of the high inflation rate (14%) last year and of the 25% rise in the salaries in the sector. <\/p>\n
