Moldova.ORG — The International Trade Committee of the European Parliament has given the go-ahead for EU macro-financial aid to Moldova in the amount of 45 million euros to support the balance of trade of this country, announced the press service of the European Legislature on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

"However, by accepting this proposal to offer the financial aid, the European parliamentarians imposed several conditions for the payment of the funds", the cited sources also wrote. <\/p>\n

Moldova has to show obvious progress in ensuring transparency of its public finances. Also, the country has to ensure the application of macroeconomic and budgetary priorities advocated by the International Monetary Fund. The progress of showing respect for human rights is considered as well. <\/p>\n

The Moldova’s trade balance suffered considerably due to the raise of energy prices and to the embargo imposed by Russia on imports of Moldovan wine in 2006. The EU financial aid is meant also to soften this situation. <\/p>\n

The report presented at the Parliamentary Committee shows that the wine sector accounts for around 25% of Moldova’s GDP and 80% of its production was exported to Russia. <\/p>\n

The European parliamentarians also stressed the "exceptional" nature of an instrument such as macro-financial aid to be provided to Moldova and which should prompt Chisinau to implement reforms under the Moldova-EU Action Plan. <\/p>\n
