Moldova rose the electric energy production potential of the domestic thermal electric power stations (CETs) from 10-15 per cent in 2000 to 30-35 per cent in 2006. Till 2001, scheduled electricity cut-offs of about 10-14 hour per day were practiced in Moldova, while since 2002, the Moldovan consumers have been supplied with electric energy on around-the-clock basis. <\/p>\n<p>The premier said the development of Moldova&#8217;s energy system is a priority for the government, and 2007 should become a turning point in this field. <\/p>\n<p>The prime minister laid the emphasis on the need to increase the domestic electric energy production capabilities so as to cover some 90 per cent of the needs, to ensure the development of the distribution grids, modernise the CETs, as well as to provide services at the level of European standards. <\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.moldova.org\/economie\/energie\/lamp_stilp_iluminare.jpg\" width=\"267\" align=\"right\" alt=\"\" \/>To consolidate the energy security, the premier instructed to set up a special commission which will make an inventory of all the electricity grids of all the tension levels, will assess the real state of things, and will elaborate an action plan to set right the situation. <\/p>\n<p>Vasile Tarlev stressed the need to direct the investments made in 2007 mainly to extend the electricity networks and renew the electric-energy equipment. <\/p>\n<p>The head of the executive asked the competent authorities to complete the consultations with European Union (EU) experts on Moldova&#8217;s long-term energy strategy, and submit this document to the government for approval.
