Moldovan inflation rate was 1.6 percent in October, a similar level with the same month of 2005, when prices rose by 1.5 percent, according to data of the National Bureau for Statistics (BNS). <\/p>\n

Inflation rose after prices of food products went up by 2.4 percent, of manufactured goods by 1.4 percent and of services granted to population by 0.6 percent. Prices of dietetic eggs have grown most – by 29.5 percent, followed by fresh vegetables – 16.2 percent, grapes by 9.1 percent, coal by 5.1 percent. Tariffs for transportation by taxi have risen by 2.5 percent while prices for housing repairs have grown by 1.2 percent. <\/p>\n

The cumulated inflation rate for ten months reached 10.8 percent. "Prices rose more than last year, when inflation for ten months was 6.5 percent," experts said. They noted that as a rule, higher prices are registered at the end of the year, so that inflation will exceed the government’s target of 12 percent. <\/p>\n

Nor the 10.5-percent inflation forecast by the International Monetary Fund was confirmed. <\/p>\n

The government and the National Bank have initially forecasted a 9-10 percent inflation rate for this year. The government had to update its forecasts, increasing them up to 12 percent after the Russian Federation has doubled the gas prices for Moldova, the tariffs for final consumers and other costs have grown and Moscow has restricted the Moldovan wines.
