Moldova’s trade deficit rose by 35.8 percent in January-September 2006, up to a new record for that period – 1,124,700,000 dollars, the National Bureau for Statistics said Wednesday. <\/p>\n

The rise of trade deficit was due to the trade with CIS, especially with Russia. The trade deficit with CIS rose 1.6-fold in January-September 2006, up to 400.8 million dollars. The deficit with Central and East Europe rose by 29.2 percent up to 148.4 million dollars, with the European Union by 5.6 percent up to 319 million dollars, and with other countries 1.5-fold up to 255.7 million dollars. <\/p>\n

Moldova’s exports dropped by 8.2 percent in nine months, down to 718.6 million dollars, while imports rose by 14.5 percent up to 1,843,300,000 dollars. <\/p>\n

Exports to Russia dropped the most – by 45.6 percent, down to 142 million dollars. At the same time, deliveries to Italy declined by 15.7 percent, down to 84 million dollars, to Germany by 0.4 percent down to 32 million dollars, to the United States by 65.9 percent down to 11.3 million dollars. Moldovan exports to Romania rose by 28.5 percent up to 105 million dollars, to Ukraine by 26.9 percent up to 87 million dollars, to Belarus by 8.1 percent up to 48 million dollars, to Turkey by 33.2 percent up to 21 million dollars. <\/p>\n

At the same time, imports from Russia rose 1.5-fold in nine months, up to 273 million dollars, from Ukraine by 5 percent up to 370 million dollars, from Romania by 36.6 percent up to 370 million dollars, from Italy by 26.3 percent up to 137 million dollars. <\/p>\n

The government forecasts a deficit of 1.67 billion dollars for this year. The export is expected to drop by 5 percent, for the first time after 1998, down to 1 billion dollars, while the import will grow by 18 percent, up to 2.7 billion dollars. <\/p>\n
