The World Bank and Moldovan government signed Tuesday the grant agreement for the Second Rural Investment and Services Project (RISP-II). The document was signed by Moldova’s Minister of Finance Mihai Pop and the World Bank country director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, Paul Bermingham. <\/p>\n

The 6-million-dollar (46.06 million Swedish crowns) grant was offered by the Swedish International Development Agency. <\/p>\n

Bermingham told journalists that the Swedish support will allow the RISP-II Project to considerably enhance the impact of the project and to broaden its agenda. <\/p>\n

The World Bank official reiterated the Bank’s intention to provide additional financial assistance to Moldova in connection with the latest challenges. "I think that we may increase the assistance for EGPRSP and we stand ready to finance the renovation of roads," he said, adding that the WB Board of Directors will consider the opportunity of additional support next week. <\/p>\n

The RISP-II agreement was signed on April 13, 2006 and it is estimated at 21 million dollars. Under agreement, the World Bank will allocate 15 million dollars for this project via the International Development Association, of which a 7.5 million dollars grant. At the same time, the Swedish International Development Agency has granted 6 million dollars for this purpose. The project implementation period is four years, from June 2006 until June 2010. <\/p>\n

RISP-II has four components: Rural Advisory Services, Rural Business Development Services, Rural Finance, Land Re-Parcelling Pilots and Project Management.
