Moldova’s balance of payments with the Russian Federation dropped down to 88.47 million dollars in the first half of this year, compared with 172.41 million dollars in the similar period of 2005, according to updated accounts of the National Bank of Moldova. <\/p>\n

The balance of payments continues to favour Moldova, but it has declined dramatically after Russia restricted the Moldovan wine imports in March 2006, especially in the second quarter, notably from 105.55 million dollars in 2005 down to 49.84 million dollars this year. <\/p>\n

The balance declined because the Moldovan exports to the Russian market dropped by 69 percent in the 2nd quarter, down to 28.65 million dollars. On the other hand, imports from Russia were over twofold larger, including after Russia has doubled the gas price for Moldova up to 160 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres. <\/p>\n

Moldovan commodity exports to the Russian market were valued at 72.09 million dollars in the first quarter. <\/p>\n
