A TACIS project, Support for Small-and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Rural Area (IMM) in Moldova, was officially launched within a today’s seminar in Chisinau. The project is financed by the European Union. <\/p>\n

The document is implemented by the International Development Ireland in partnership with the Central European Expert Network Consulting, and the Economics and Trade Ministry (MEC) which is also the main beneficiary. <\/p>\n

Economics and Trade Minister Igor Dodon stressed that the project’s main goal is to back the rural development and the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper’s (EGPRSP) implementation in Moldova by fostering the small and middle-size enterprises in villages, strengthening their contribution to the Gross Domestic Product and trade development, as well as creating jobs. <\/p>\n

"One of the MEC’s priorities is to ensure the durability of the small and middle-size enterprises’ sector, as it is one of the main sectors of the national economy," the minister added. <\/p>\n

A representative of the European Commission’s delegation to Moldova, Paolo Berizzi, stressed that by implementing this and other projects, the European Union backs Moldova’s democratic and social-economic development. <\/p>\n

\"\""Through the project, we are to boost the development of the small and middle-size enterprises in the rural area and to help successfully implement the EGPRSP. The project’s implementation is even more important now that Moldova is facing difficulties in terms of exports. We are sure that the project will help the institutions in the country, as well as its citizens who are the final beneficiaries of the EU’s support", Berizzi also said. <\/p>\n

The head of the project’s implementation team, Stephen O’Mullane, specified that its goal is to help the Moldovan government create a political, institutional, legal and regulation framework, supported through the development of the small and middle-size enterprises in the rural area, as well as to help create synergy between its policy on IMM’s regional development and the Moldovan Village Programme. Strengthening small and middle-size enterprises’ competitiveness, facilitating rural IMM’s access to business and finance services, all fit into this context. <\/p>\n

The EU-financed project, Support for Small-and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Rural Area in Moldova, stands at 1.909.910 euros, and it is to be carried out in July 2006-December 2007.
