The Moldovan union of wine exporters hope that the negotiations on resumption of wine exports to the Russian Federation will continue though the chairman of the Rospotrebnadzor service, Gennady Onishchenko, said that the negotiations between Chisinau and Moscow "have entered an impasse." <\/p>\n

Union chairman Gheorghe Cozub stated to BASA that the wine problem was not excluded yet from agenda of the sitting of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental commission, which will take place in Chisinau in October. "This fact inspires wine makers with optimism," the expert noted. <\/p>\n

At the same time, he described Onishchenko’s statements as a confirmation of the Russian political unwillingness to unblock the wine imports from Moldova. Cozuv added that "the Rospotrebnadzor head has simulated a new reason of delaying the negotiations." <\/p>\n

Gennady Onishchenko said on September 23 that the Moldovan wines will unlikely return to the Russian market. The Chisinau authorities claim that this problem has a political nature and they do not acknowledge the low quality of wines made in Moldova, he claimed. He underlined that "given the politicising of this problem, the Rospotrebnadzor delegation will rather refuse to visit Chisinau to continue negotiations." <\/p>\n

The Chisinau authorities did not react to Onishchenko’s statements so far. <\/p>\n

Russia, the No.1 consumer of Moldovan wines, restricted the importation of wines from Moldova on March 27, claiming that "they contain pesticides." Moldova was earlier exporting about 80 percent of its wines to Russia.
